Royal Academy of Dance (RAD) Ballet Classes

The RAD offers an internationally-recognised portfolio of examinations and assessments designed to encourage, motivate and reward students of all ages and abilities.  These syllabus classes provide a structure for our students to progress their learning and achievement in dance.

Pre-school and Pre-Primary Ballet

A fun and lively dance class for 3-6-year-olds that uses props, storytelling and imagination to develop physical movement and encourage creativity, expression and confidence. The perfect foundation for the RAD ballet syllabus.  Due to the nature of our online classes, this class will require parental involvement.

Senior Ballet (RAD Grade 4+)

A class for students who have reached RAD Grade 4 standard and above.  The class incorporates syllabus exercises as well as training exercises and free work to challenge our dancers and develop their technique.  Due to the nature of our online classes, exercises will mostly be barre based. 

Pointe Strengthening

A class for students aged 12+ who are keen to start dancing on pointe or who are already on pointe.  The online class format works perfectly for the static floor, barre and centre-based exercises needed to help students develop and maintain strength in the feet, ankles and overall posture required for pointe work.   Whilst aimed at preparing students for pointe work, the class will include exercises that can be performed in pointe shoes as well.

Family Ballet Barre

Recommended for children and adults, aged 8+, this is a ballet barre class that all members of the family can join in with, whether you have danced before or not.  Focusing on basic ballet technique, dancers can adapt the exercises to suit their own abilities.  Great fun when all the family are involved!

Contemporary Dance

Modern classical ballet dancers need to be versatile.  Ballet companies collaborate with contemporary choreographers to produce beautiful works such as English National Ballet and Akram Khan’s Giselle.  Our contemporary class is the perfect way to start the weekend, giving dancers the chance to let go, feel the music and simply enjoy movement.

Ballet Fitness

For our dancers to reach their maximum potential they need to keep fit through building stamina, muscle strength and joint flexibility.  Starting with an aerobic workout and finishing with stretching for flexibility and meditation to calm the mind, the main focus of this class is on Progressing Ballet Technique (PBT), a revolutionary programme that uses fit balls and resistance bands to help train muscle memory.

BSD Performers Group

We know how much our students love preparing for shows and performing.  This class allows students to learn performance pieces all year round, whether repertoire from classical ballets, new choreography or having a go at choreographing dances themselves.  A great opportunity for students to use their creativity, learn how to work as a team and gain confidence in performing.

Pointe Class

A dedicated pointe work class for our senior students to build up their strength and confidence in pointe work.  This is an invitation only class for those in Grade 5 and above attending multiple classes a week who have gained the strength required to dance on pointe.
